Among the 14 nominations it received for the 2019 Tony Awards, Hadestown clinched eight victories, including the much-coveted title of Best Musical. Furthermore, the musical garnered accolades for its mesmerizing music composed by David Mitchell, the masterful direction of Rachel Chavkin, the standout performance by André De Shields, the innovative scenic design, the noteworthy sound design, the expert lighting design, and the artful orchestrations.

In Anais Mitchell's reinterpretation of a ancient Greek legend, Eurydice is depicted as a young woman adept in surviving on her own in a world filled with unpredictability, even in weather conditions. Meanwhile, Orpheus is a fervent singer-songwriter overflowing with sentiments. Upon their initial encounter, Eurydice is lured into an underworld factory, where Hades transforms his workers into mindless drones.

Orpheus embarks on a journey to retrieve her, and aided by his melodious tunes and Persephone (Hades' wife), he achieves bringing her back to his abode.

The cast is efficient, made up of merely 13 members, who remain on the forefront for the majority of the performance. The choir consists of five cast members, who provide their singing and dancing in the background to heighten the vigor of the songs. Present in the cast the three Fates, who sing, converse, and interact with the characters. The entire seven-piece band for "Hadestown" delivers the full performance while all with the exception of the drummer are seen on stage. The main characters encompass the deities Hades and Persephone, as well as Orpheus and his beloved Eurydice.
